Innovative electronic design company combats copper cable theft

As the price of copper rises and economic times become very tough, the theft of copper cable has become a major source of disruption for many utilities. Metal thefts are costing the UK around £770m a year.

Thieves are prepared to put themselves at serious risk of injury, or even death through electrocution, to hack through cables for a few pounds of wiring.

The extent of this behaviour is wreaking havoc on Britain’s railways, with the recent announcement that Network Rail have forked out a whopping £16.5m to replace stolen cable sections, having seen an increase in theft of 52% in the last year and subsequent delays amounting to over 6,000 hours.
